A plant species of the family AQUIFOLIACEAE. It has been used to induce vomiting in purification rites.
A tree, indigenous in the southern parts of the United States. The leaves, when dried, are aromatic, stimulant, stomachic, and expectorant, and are used as a tea. When fresh, they are emetic and cathartic.
