Either of two nuclei, one of which, the large-celled n. chief or main hypoglossal n. is situated in the postoblongata somewhat ventrad of the central canal and very close to the meson. The second n. is the small-celled n. of Roller. This is an indistinctly circumscribed, round clump of small nerve cells lying close against the ventral side of the main n.
