An American story-writer; born in Warren, R. I., Dec. 22, 1839. Since 1871 he has been on the staff of the Youth's Companion. Author of popular juvenile stories and travels, including: "Zig-Zag Journeys" (1876-80); "Songs of History: Poems and Ballads upon Important Episodes in American History" (1887); "The Wampum Belt, or the Fairest Page of History" (1896). D. 1905.
