This consists of heating a few drops of the urine to be tested with about 2 c.c.'s of the reagent, namely, a mixture of 1 volume of 25 per cent, nitric acid and 19 volumes of 25 per cent, hydrochloric acid, which has been standing for about one year and then mixed with about 4 times its volume of alcohol. If bile pigments are present, the mixture turns green or bluish green.
