A German poet; born in Karlsruhe, Feb. 11, 1780; died at Winkel on the Rhine, July 26, 1806. An unfortunate love affair with the scholar Creuzer confirmed her natural tendency to melancholy and mysticism, by which her poetry is much colored, and she finally committed suicide. She sometimes used the pseudonym "Tian". "Poems and Fancies" and "Poetic Fragments" are her best efforts.
