His stories are either descriptive of ethnographical peculiarities, and on that account specially valuable, or they are historical novels. To the former class belong: "The Refugees"; "The Refugees' Return"; "Liberty". His principal historical novels are: "Mirowitsh"; "The Burning of Moscow"; "The Black Year".
