A German story-writer and poet; born at Hagen, Sept. 6, 1813; died at Freiburg, Baden, Feb. 6, 1892. He wrote "Legends and Pictures of Westphalia" (1856); "Poems" (1860); "Comedies" (2 vols., 1869 and 1881); "A Little List of Sins" (4th ed. 1889); and adapted some of Shakespeare's plays.
