A German novelist (1825-91); born at Campe, Osnabruck. Her first novel, "The Loving Old Couple", was published in 1857. Though she traveled extensively and observantly in Europe and America, her themes for stories were nearly all from her loved countryside; and she is called "the poetess of the Ems valley". Among her novels may be named: "The School of the Heart"; "Tales of Home"; "Pictures of Emsland"; "posthumously" "Poems", and a story, "The Woman Nihilist".
