A genus of palms.

Note: El[ae]is Guineensis, the African oil palm, is a tree
twenty or thirty feet high, with immense pinnate leaves
and large masses of fruit. The berries are rather
larger than olives, and when boiled in water yield the
orange-red palm oil.
