A French dramatist and story-writer; born at Paris, Aug. 2, 1821; died there, Nov. 12, 1876. Among his stories are: "The Christmas Tree" (1854); "The Beauty with Golden Hair" (1861). He wrote a volume of songs, "Sunday Refrains" (1856); and the comedies "The Steeple-Chase" (1851), "Winter Night's Dream" (1854), "A Household Crisis" (1858), "The Dragooness" (1874); also "The Late Capt. Octave" (1859).
