An American Episcopal clergyman, historian, and biographer; born at Stepney, Conn., 1808; died at New Haven, Dec. 22, 1891. He became a pastor in New Haven in 1848. He wrote: "History of the Episcopal Church in Connecticut" (4th ed. 1883); and lives of "Samuel Johnson, First President of King's College, New York" (1874); "William Samuel Johnson, President of Columbia College" (1876); and "Samuel Seabury, First Bishop of Connecticut" (1881).
