Relating to Dionysius, a monk of the 6th century; as, the Dionysian, or Christian, era.
[Gr.] Relating to Dionysus, son of Zeus (Jupiter) and Semele daughter of Cadmus of Thebes. He is said to have brought from the East the orgiastic worship with which he was honoured. He is known also as Bacchus.
