An Irish poet; born at Dublin, 1817 (?); died 1882. He was a lawyer by profession, but never practiced. He won the love of his countrymen by his lyrics on Irish history and legend. Among his works are: "Ballads, Poems, and Lyrics" (1850); "The Bell-Founder", etc. (new ed. 1857); "Underglimpses", etc. (1857). He wrote also "Early Life of Shelley" (1872).
