(1812-1894), a Boston lawyer from 1836 to 1862, when he removed to New York, was largely engaged in professional and historical investigations, and published many valuable works, among them being "Commentaries on the Jurisprudence, Practice and Peculiar Jurisdiction of the Courts of the United States" and a "History of the Origin, Formation and Adoption of the Constitution of the United States," and the first volume of a "Constitutional History of the United States."
