The piece which connects the piston-rod and the connecting-rod of a steamengine. It consists of a socket to which the piston-rod is keyed, and a journal or two journals on which the connecting-rod works. The crosshead is connected with the guiding apparatus which maintains the rectilineal motion of the piston-rod.
