[Latin] A genus of Schizomycetes, the members of which are composed of cocci which are enveloped in zoogIoea and develop into unbranched filaments with distinct sheath, which afterward split into large cocci or gonidia. C. polyspora, found in aqueducts often in great quantities, gives water a bad taste.
