When the two hemispheres of the brain are sliced away, till on a level with the corpus callosum, the medullary part in each is of an oval shape: hence called centrum ovale minus, (F.) centre medullaire hemispheral. The two centres of the opposite sides, together with the corpus callosum, form the centrum ovale of Vieus'sens. Vieussens supposed all the medullary fibres to issue from that point, and that it was the great dispensatory of the animal spirits.
