An American novelist; born in Canandaigua, N. Y., about 1828; died in Piermont, N. Y., Feb. 16, 1873. She was author of "Dream-Land by Daylight", a volume of stories and sketches (1851); "The Beautiful Gate and Other Tales" (1863). The novels "Philly and Kit" (1856); "Peter Carradine" (1863); "The Foe in the Household" (1871); and various others, are well known.
