'Sound of friction of ascent and descent.' Sounds produced by the rubbing of the lung against the parietes of the chest, as it rises and falls during inspiration and expiration. They are distinctly heard in pleuritis, when the pleura has become roughened by the disease. Friction sounds, Rubbing sounds, To-and-fro sounds are also heard in pericarditis and peritonitis.
