The curve along which a body will descend from one point to another in the shortest possible time is the Brachistochronous curve [Gr., shortest, time], or the C. of shortest descent. When a curve is such that a body descends along it to the lowest point in the same time from whatever point it starts, it is said to be a Tautochronous C. [the same], or a C. of equable descent. Curves of equal pressure are such taht, when a body descends along them, the pressure against the curve is the same at all points.
