(1744-1798), of Massachusetts, clergyman and historian, was for twenty years pastor of a church in Dover, NH, and, from 1787 till his death, of the Federal Street Church, Boston. He wrote an excellent history of New Hampshire in three volumes, and in 1791 founded the Massachusetts Historical Society.
