(1769-1851), commodore in the U. S. Navy, commanded the "Chesapeake" when the "Leopard" attacked and captured her, in 1807. Barron was tried by court-martial, found guilty of negligence in preparation, and suspended for five years. In 1820 he killed Commodore Decatur in a duel arising out of this trial.
