[Gr.] (Bot.) A gen. of plants, ord. Solanaceae. A. belladonna, the deadly nightshade, is a tall shrubby plant, with large egg-shaped entire leaves, dull purple bell-shaped flowers, and shining black berries ; it is very poisonous, and is employed in medicine.
