A maker of arcade games, home video gamesystems, and home computers, especially during the 1970s and1980s. Atari are best known for their range of 16- and 32-bitmicrocomputers, notable for having a built-in MIDIinterface. As of February 1994 the range included the Atari520ST, 1040ST, Mega ST, STe, STacy, Mega STe, TT, and Falcon.There are also emulators that run on the Apple Macintosh andIBM PC/XT/AT.Atari ceased to be a separate company in 1996 when merged withJTS. In 1998, JTS sold the Atari assets to Hasbro. In2001, Infogrames North America operations officially changedtheir name to Atari.
