An English novelist and journalist; born at Southgate, England, in 1852. He engaged in journalism in London and afterwards in the provinces, editing successively the North Eastern Gazette and Lancashire Daily Post. He relinquished journalism for fiction in 1894. Author of "Isa" (1887); "By Right of Sword" (1897); "The Greatest Gift" (1899); "In the Name of a Woman" (1900); "For Love or Crown" (1901); "Sarita the Carlist" (1902); "The Queen's Advocate".
