A Scotch memoirist and descriptive prose-writer; born in Glasgow, Feb. 21, 1755; died in Edinburgh, Nov. 7, 1838. She was in this country when a child, and from her observations gathered at that time wrote "Memoirs of an American Lady" (1808), a highly attractive delineation of our colonial life. She is also the author of "Essays on the Superstitions of the Highlands of Scotland" (1811), besides miscellaneous prose.
