A noted Flemish poet; born in Antwerp, 1494; died there, April 10, 1575. Much admired for her melodious verses, full of metaphors and showing great technical skill, she was styled the "Brabantine Sappho" by her contemporaries. The first of her volumes of collected verse bore the title "This is a Beautiful and Truthful[or "Sincere"] Little Book"; while a second is known as "Spiritual Refrains".
