A Spanish poet, novelist, and playwright; born in Crema, Italy, April 2, 1826. Her childhood was passed at Barcelona, where at 15 she wrote the successful drama "Crime and Expiation". "Riches of the Soul" and "The Drop of Water" won a prize from the Spanish Academy. "The Son-in-Law", "The First Year of Marriage", and "The Snowball" are her best-known novels.
