The plant whence it has been supposed GUM EL'EMI is obtained. This gum or resin is brought from the Spanish East and West Indies. Brazilian Elemi, according to Dr. Royle, is produced by Icica Icicariba; Mexican Elemi, by Ela'phrium elemiferum; and Manilla Elemi, by Cana'rium commu'ne. It is softish, transparent, of a pale whitish colour, inclining a little to green, and of a strong, though not unpleasant smell. It is only used in ointments and plasters, and is a digestive.
