An American reformer, merchant, statesman, and political economist; born at Woodstock, Conn., May 4, 1799; died at North Brookfield, Mass., Oct. 29, 1875. He was one of the editors of the Transactions of the Agricultural Society of Massachusetts (7 vols., 1848-54); and published his great work on political economy, "The Science of Wealth", in 1866.
