A Dutch theological writer; born 1760; died in 1831 at Groningen, where he was professor of church history. He wrote a "Literary History of Dogmatics" (5 vols., 1793-98); "History of the Dutch Language" (1812); "History of the Dutch Church" (4 vols., 1820-27).
