Syn. : digenesis. An alternation of agamogenesis with gamogenesis; in the same type, one or several sexless generations intervening between the sexual generations.

That process of reproduction in which one impregnation supplies two or more generations, called Nursing generations. Reproduction by impregnation then recurs. Probably it is an internal budding or fission. Most striking in Hydrozoa, but Entozoa and Molluscoids supply instances.
