An American lawyer, author, and poet; born in Iredell County, N. C., Sept. 18, 1810; died in Chicago, III., Dec. 31, 1867. He was admitted to the Missouri bar in 1834. He practiced throughout the Southwest and later in Chicago. Among his works are: "The Rangers and Regulators of the Tanaha" (1856); "Sketches of the Southwest"; "Poems, with Memoir" (1869).
