A genus of gram-negative, aerobic, rod-shaped bacteria found in soil, plants, and marine mud. With the exception of Agrobacterium radiobacter, members of this genus invade the crown, roots, and stems of plants, via wounds, causing the transformation of the plant cells into proliferating tumor cells (PLANT TUMORS).
