A Swiss-American archaeologist; born at Bern, Switzerland, Aug. 6, 1840. In the employ of the Archaeological Institute of America, he has been engaged in explorations in New Mexico, Arizona, Mexico, and Central and South America. He has written: "The Art of War and Mode of Warfare" (1877); "Archaeological Tour in Mexico" (1885); etc.; and "The Delight Makers", a novel of Pueblo Indian life.
