A German writer on art; born at Ballenstedt, Sept. 24, 1810; died at Munich, April 27, 1876. He wrote: "New Doctrine of the Proportions of the Human Body" (1854); "Aesthetic Researches" (1855); "The Metamorphoses in the Ratios of the Human Figure" (1859); "Religion and Science, State and Church" (1873); and several novels.
