[L.] A system of delicate vessels, pervading the entire body, whose function is to take up substances and convey them into the mass of the circulating fluid. Of these, the Lacteals [L. lac, milk] convey the chyle from the stomach and intestines ; the Lymphatics [L.] absorb all redundant matter throughout the body (Lymph). A drug which stimulates such vessels is called absorbent, e.g. calomel.
